The Schooner has been rebuilt. Over a busy run of releases she grew into a ship you can actually live on — and the old one is still there for everyone who already owns her.
The new Schooner
- Bigger and roomier. A 24-metre, two-masted ship with a 7.2-metre beam and walkable main and lower decks, laid out with space for your own construction. Her larger parts use the same crafted supplies as the Sloop.
- Built like a base. Ordinary wooden walls, doorways, doors, window walls, shutters, half walls, railings, roofs and stairs can be built aboard to make cabins and interiors. Everything snaps to a shared 1.2-metre building lattice and fits itself to the curve of the hull.
- Roofs and stairs. Wooden roofs fit the hull, meet their neighbours cleanly and leave room for the masts. Ordinary Wooden Stairs link the decks and can climb up to a cabin roof.
- Your deck, your layout. Fourteen 2.4-metre deck panels in the middle of the main deck can be lifted with a hold of X and laid again with a Wood Floor, so you decide where the openings go.
- Place the wheel yourself. Take a crafted Ship's Wheel in hand, aim its preview and click to fit it — in the middle, at the stern, off-centre or even on a supported cabin roof.
- Build beside the ladders. Walls, half walls and railings can now go right up to the boarding ladders, and you can still climb aboard beneath a cabin roof.
The server checks every placement for permissions, reach, support, mast and rigging clearance and a usable route around the ship, so a cabin can't trap the crew or foul the sails.
One name each
The new ship is simply the Schooner everywhere in the game. The 19-metre ship that came before is now the Original Schooner. Her frame is no longer crafted, but every Original Schooner afloat — and any frame already made — keeps working with all its fitted parts and saved layout.
Taking things down
- Fair refunds. Deliberately dismantling an eligible building, furnishing or shipboard piece returns half of its raw materials, rounded down. Wear doesn't reduce the refund.
- Hold X. Aim at a piece and hold X for three seconds, with a progress panel and a preview of what you'll get back. Let go or look away to cancel.
- Safe by design. The whole refund has to fit in your pack first, and storage boxes must be emptied before they come down.
Small but welcome
- Ship menu from the water. Swimming or wading beside a Schooner or Original Schooner, press B within seven metres of her keel to open her menu. B now picks the nearest ship, which helps when two are moored side by side.
- Cleaner timber and sails. Deck planks keep their own grain when nearby panels change, the boarding under a cabin roof has tidy joins, and the sails are solid weathered canvas.
